WYR? — Privacy Policy
Effective date: August 12, 2026
WYR? is a private "Would You Rather" game for couples, operated by Mayer Sancivieri ("we," "us"). This policy explains, in plain English, what data the app touches, where it goes, how long it stays, and what you can do about it.
The short version: WYR? is built to be private. Your reels are yours — and your partner's, once you pair. There's no public feed. We show no ads, embed no trackers or analytics SDKs, and never sell your data.
1. What we collect
Account info. When you sign up (with Apple, Google, or an SMS code), our sign-in provider Clerk collects your name and either your email address or your phone number — whichever your sign-in method provides. You also pick a display name your partner sees.
Your duo. You can play on your own, or pair with another person. Pairing creates a link between your account and theirs. Most of your data in WYR? — rounds, reels, streak, subscription — is then shared at the couple ("duo") level, which means your partner can see it too. That's the product.
Video and audio during rounds. Some modes are played live on two phones. In those, your camera and microphone streams are processed to run the video call between the two devices, and the round is recorded server-side into your reel. Other modes are played on a single device and are recorded entirely on that phone — that footage never leaves it unless you share it. In every case, camera and mic are only active during a round, never in the background. The app tells you which kind of mode you're starting before it begins.
Gameplay data. Your question picks, round history, daily streak, streak freezes, question packs you install or write, and reel favorites.
Notifications. If you turn on notifications, we store a device token from Apple so we can send them (for example, when your partner starts a round), along with your notification preferences. You can turn any of these off in the app, or all of them in iOS Settings — turning them off stops the sending.
Referrals. If you share your referral code or use someone else's, we record which account referred which, and any free Pro months earned. This creates a link between your account and the other person's; neither of you is shown the other's identity through it.
AI pack themes. If you generate an AI question pack, the theme you type (e.g. "camping trip debates") is sent to the AI service to write the questions. Only the theme text goes — no other personal data.
Purchases. If you subscribe to WYR? Pro, Apple processes the payment. We never see your card or billing details — only your subscription status, which we store for your duo so both partners get Pro.
What we do NOT collect: your location, your contacts, your photo library (saving a reel is add-only — we can't read your photos), browsing history, health data, financial details, or any advertising/tracking data. There are no analytics SDKs in the app.
2. Who processes your data (our providers)
We use a small set of service providers, each for one job:
| Provider | What it does | What it touches |
|---|---|---|
| Clerk | Sign-in and accounts | Name, email or phone number, sign-in identity |
| Supabase | Our database (Postgres, hosted in the US) | Account/duo records, gameplay data, reel metadata |
| LiveKit | The live video call between your two phones | Video/audio streams, processed transiently for the call and for the server-side reel recording |
| Cloudflare | Temporary storage of finished live-mode reels (R2) and the reel-rendering service | The finished reel file, until your devices download it |
| Anthropic (Claude) | Generates AI question packs | The theme text you type — nothing else |
| Apple | Payments for WYR? Pro | Handled entirely by Apple under Apple's terms |
| Apple Push Notification service | Delivers notifications to your phone | A device token, and the text of the notification |
We don't share your data with anyone else, and no provider is permitted to use your data for its own advertising. We never sell your data.
3. How long things stay (retention)
Reels are device-home, not cloud-home. A live-mode reel is stored temporarily in cloud storage so both of your phones can download it. On the free tier, once both partners have downloaded a reel, its cloud copy is scheduled for deletion (about 24 hours later) and removed in periodic sweeps — your phones hold the memories. WYR? Pro keeps the cloud copy available for longer, so a reel can still be re-downloaded to a new or reset phone; it is removed when the reel is deleted or the subscription's retention window passes. Single-device reels never leave the phone at all. (If you share a reel, you're sharing your device's copy through the iOS share sheet — that's your call.)
Live call streams exist only for the duration of the round: they're processed transiently to run the call and produce the recording, not retained as separate streams.
Account and gameplay data stay as long as your account does.
4. Deleting your account
You can delete your account in the app (no email required, though we'll always help at the address below). Deletion:
- removes your profile and your sign-in identity;
- unpairs your duo;
- removes your referral records and any free Pro months you had earned but not used — these cannot be restored, so spend them first if you care about them;
- your partner keeps their own copies of your shared reels. The reels were theirs too — memories survive a deleted account. If you also want specific shared reels gone, delete them in the app before deleting your account (deleting a reel for the duo removes it for both of you), or talk to your partner.
5. Your rights
You can ask us at any time to:
- Access — get a copy of the data we hold about you;
- Delete — remove your account and data (or just use in-app deletion);
- Correct — fix inaccurate account info.
Email us at support@thewyrapp.com and we'll respond as quickly as we can. Depending on where you live, local law may give you additional rights; we'll honor valid requests regardless of geography where we reasonably can.
6. Children
WYR? is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 13. Our Terms of Service require users to be at least 13 years old. If we learn that we have collected personal data from a child under 13, we will delete it — if you believe that has happened, contact us at the address below and we'll act on it.
7. Security
Data in our database is protected by per-account access rules (each duo can only reach its own data), secrets are kept server-side rather than in the app, and reels are only ever accessible to the two members of the duo. No system is perfectly secure, but private-by-design choices (no feed, transient cloud storage, on-device reels) mean there's simply less of your data sitting on servers to begin with.
8. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we'll update the effective date above and, where appropriate, tell you in the app. Continued use after a change means the updated policy applies.
